Our approach

At ChildrenSafe, our work is guided by a strong commitment to children’s rights and safeguarding. We believe that protecting children and young people starts with the right approach: one that listens, empowers, and engages all those involved in their lives.

A number of principles therefore guide every project, activity, and resource we develop.

Putting the best interests of the child first

Every decision is guided by the child’s best interests, taking into account their personal context, situation, and needs. Requiring the effective cooperation of all actors, this rights-based approach ensures the holistic – physical, psychological, moral, and emotional – wellbeing of each child, while promoting dignity and respect.

Being child-centred

Children are at the heart of our work. We involve them and their families in decisions about their lives, ensuring their voices are heard and their perspectives are respected.

Trauma-informed practice

We recognise that experiences of trauma can affect development. Our approach prioritises safety, trust, shared decision-making, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural sensitivity to support children effectively.

Gender and cultural sensitivity

We recognise and respect the diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences of the people we work with – be that children, young people or adults – as socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic factors can affect their lives.

A bottom-up approach

Solutions are strongest when they come from those who experience them: we co-design all activities and training with the people they are intended for – whether in schools, extracurricular settings, or community spaces.

Non-formal education methods

Creative tools such as games, arts, and interactive exercises encourage professional and children’s engagement, foster critical thinking, and support personal and collective growth.
