ChildrenSafe is a platform dedicated to the prevention of violence, abuse and exploitation of children and young people. Promoting an approach based on education and collaboration, it aims to strengthen the knowledge, awareness and skills of parents, educators, and other adults supporting children, and their ability to recognise risk signals and situations of vulnerability.
Children cannot and should not be expected to protect themselves on their own: creating safe environments is the responsibility of adults and institutions.
On the ChildrenSafe website, you can access guides, tools, and learning resources to help you create contexts that are safer for children, where risks are recognised and addressed. There are materials for anyone – educators, parents and tutors, support professionals, or others who work with children and young people.
ChildrenSafe is the result of the work of CESIE ETS together with a network of European organisations
CESIE ETS is a European Centre for Studies and Initiatives that, inspired by the work of activist and educator Danilo Dolci, promotes sustainable social, educational, and cultural development. Through the active participation of individuals, civil society, and institutions, CESIE ETS works to bring about equitable and inclusive change, based on principles of solidarity and the celebration of diversity.
ChildrenSafe builds on several projects, including SHIELD, GUIDE, bE-aware, SafeBorders, STOP, JERICHO, and others.
SHIELD
Strengthening child protection in care facilities to support disclosure of violence
SHIELD is a European project that strengthens the capacity to identify and address violence against children in residential care facilities, as well as promoting safe and informed disclosure of violence by children.
The project aims to:
- Strengthen the capacity to recognise and report violence in residential care facilities by identifying barriers, needs and critical conditions.
- Develop skills and tools for professionals and educational staff working with children, promoting effective prevention, reporting and protection practices.
- Increase children’s awareness of different forms of violence and of safe ways to seek help and report abuse.
SHIELD is funded by the European Commission’s CERV-DAPHNE programme and implemented by partner organisations in Cyprus, Austria, Greece, Italy, Lithuania and Spain.
